August 2017
Greetings everyone! My name is Cedric and I am the Director of the Egypt Exploration Society, a UK-based charity supporting fieldwork and research in Egypt as well as offering archaeological training opportunities in the UK and in Egypt.
I thought I could take the opportunity of this blog to give you, and especially to our supporters, some regular updates on the work my staff and I are doing. Here are some of the things we have been working on recently.

-
I sent to Essam the papers asking for a new EES
concession in Egypt. These papers will then be sent by Essam in
order to get a positive answer from the Ministry of Antiquities as quickly as
possible. You will be kept informed on this process.
-
We had our first official Fundraising meeting in July to
start the preparation of our soon to come fundraising campaign. Among other
things, we discussed the next steps to be followed before the next meeting and
we assessed what was our priority: the need to create a Research Fund.
-
The last Current British Archaeology in Egypt received
very good and positive feedbacks. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone
involved in this event and especially to Carl Graves for having made this day a
wonderful success.
-
The second edition of our Egyptian Archaeology Skills School
has been a great success, like last year’s first edition. Many people were even
left on the waiting list, thus proving the necessity and good reputation of
this training. I would like this event to become one of the main activities of
the EES in the future as this is the kind of education purpose the EES needs to
fulfil. It is the best way to engage with students and to get a renewed membership.
The huge success and popularity of this event has been made possible thanks to
our Facebook page.
- The 4th
edition of the British Egyptological Conference (BEC) will happen in 2018. Expressions
of interest have been made by a few UK universities and local societies but the University of Manchester has finally been chosen to organize this event. We will keep you updated as to when it will exactly be happening.
- Two monographs were published by the EES since May. The Survey of Memphis X (Blue-painted pottery from Kom Rabia), and the long-awaited book from Geoffrey Martin on Tutankhamun’s Regent. The latter will soon become one of the all-time best-selling books ever made by the EES.

-
Rosalie David’s book on Abydos, which was published
last October, is already sold out! The quality of the book and the popularity of
the author have undoubtedly played a great part in that success.

We will soon have a new website. It has been completely
redesigned recently and Carl has updated the whole content so we should be
able to go live soon. You will be kept informed on this process.
So, as you
can see, the past weeks have been very busy and the coming ones should not make
any exception. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank you again
for your steadfast support and commitment to our work in the UK and in Egypt. I
am looking forward to giving you more news and updates on our work anytime
soon!
Until next
time, I send you my warmest regards.
Dr Cédric
